Resident Evil 2 Remake

I don't play scary games. If I was not playing this game with an audience I would not have played this game. RE2 is pretty cool. I'd put this pretty high on my list of scary games that I have finished.

This is the only scary game I have finished

Quick critique: you get chased around by a big scary man, by hour 10 of being chased by big man he is no longer scary and just an obstacle. If they had used him just a bit less then I think he could have remained scary the entire game. You have to play through the game twice with 2 different characters with minor changes. I felt pretty cool having memorized the map, and having a general idea on what to do. Some of the puzzles stay the , some of them get changed. Its nice playing through your favorite parts, but it also means you have to play through the worse parts twice. I was a bit tired of running through everything by the end of the second play through, but that's it, those are my complaints.

Overcooked 2 (and 1)

Overcooked 2 is my perfect co-op game. Its accessible, has layers of complexity, stressful, makes you communicate, and its fast. After starting this game with my girlfriend she texted me a couple days later and said “I've been thinking about overcooked all day.” She did not think that video games were for her before this game. This game might be a 10. Overcooked 1 is good, but you can't throw so it makes the experience more frustrating. Play Overcooked 2, get locked into video game cooking.

Fire Emblem 3 Houses

Do you want to have tea parties with anime characters? Do you want to chat with them and have meals with them? How about send them off to war?
This is the first Fire Emblem game that I have played all the way through. I bought it in 2019 played a little bit and then restarted it in 2026 and I am happy that I did. Typically I am not a fan of social elements in games, I find it very repetitive to have to spend time with characters who's personality can be summarized in 3 words. Half of 3 Houses is that, and I enjoyed it. It took some time to find my balance between complicated anime chess and tea parties but there is an interesting story to be had within the game.
I want to divulge all my opinions with spoilers but it's best to go into the game blind. In the first half of the game you are teaching anime characters at a war college and in the second half you are fighting the war. The character growth and writing depends on the rout you take, after learning the story of the other routs I felt a bit disappointed in what I had missed, but I think in a couple years I'll feel the itch and start a different route.
Its worth it, and a fun time. Fire Emblem is a perfect on the couch wile someone else is watching TV game. I don't think I would have ended up playing on the TV, BUT now that I have started the Fire Emblem series I think I need more.

Celeste

This is a game that was made for me. The gameplay is smooth, fast and is very forgiving on failure, the story is both short and cute. Like the general game playing public, I like a big-budget, long story kind of game, but I can only do that occasionally. AAA games are like a rich cake, too much and you feel sick and I only want one a few times a year, Celeste is like a good sandwich it leaves me full and in a day or two i'll think “I could go for another sandwich.” Celeste is a stand out platformer give it a try, see your death count rise up to the thousands.

Once Upon a Katamari

Have you played Katamari? You roll stuff up and jam to good music. Its absurd, fun, and the stream of new levels ends too soon. I never feel like I have finished a Katamari game because I start the game over or try for better scores. I did get to the end of new levels so I am counting it as finished until I get another Katamari urge and boot it up again. If you have never played Katamari and want to, start with this one. The controls are easier, there is a grading system that tells you if you are doing good in the level, and there are power ups. Go roll the world up for some reason or another, the story doesn't matter. Rating - Katamari stays downloaded until moral improves.
