1. While driving to work,
I saw on the side of the highway a potted plant.
It had fallen off the back of a truck, left to spend the rest of it's days rattled by racing giants. This plant was grown, set to be bought and sold, to live at someones house as a decoration, to slowly die from being forgotten. It had no chance, brought from its natural location torched by the sun, unless it sits in a temperature controlled box. We chose this life for this plant, and our callousness left it unsecured in the back of the truck.
And all I did was write.
2. While at a flower festival my phone made a purchase. I walked around looking at plants imagining my future garden, and my phone, unlocked touched my leg through my pants and bought a book. An unwitting purchase, and what would I say to the company “I didn't look after the box in my pocket responsibly, and it made the numbers on the screen go down?”
My phone made a purchase with out my approval, and I have a book that I don't want. I wanted to imagine my garden, and the tomatoes that I would grow. Now I am stressed in the middle of a field of portable plants. Over a few dollars, because what else could it do unobserved?
